The Beijing Film Studio is located in the cultural area of the western suburbs of Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. Its environment is quiet and beautiful and the transportation around it is convenient. To its west are the Beijing Film Academy and the China Children's Film Studio and to its east are the Central TV Station and the Central Newsreel & Documentary Film Studio. It faces the Beijing Film Printing & Video Technique Plant. It is just like a well-arranged film city! There are quite a number of outstanding artists in the Studio. Besides this, it is a galaxy of talents including technical and managing specialists.
The Outstanding Films Well-known to the World
The Beijing Film Studio has the capability of producing more than 30
films and about 100 TV films a year.
The films produced in the 50s and 60s are: NEW YEAR SACRIFICE, THE
LIN FAMILY SHOP, THE SONG OF OUTH, THE HURRICANE, LITTLE SOLDIER ZHANG
GAZI, and EARLY SPRING.
In the 70s: XIAO HUA ANDTEAR STAINS.
In the 80s: REGRET FOR THE PAST, TEAHOUSE, AS-YOU- WISH,
RICHKSHAW BOY, A GOODS WOMAN, BORDER TOWN, and A DREAM OF RED MANSIONS.
In the 90s: DRAGON YEAR COPS, THE SPRING FESTIVAL, AN ANSWER FROM HEAVEN,
AFTER
SEPARATION, DIVORCE, FOR FUN, A MAN AT FORTY, THE LION DANCE FIGHT,
FAREWELL TO MY CONCUBINE, NO ONE CHEERS, ROUGE, AN UNWELCOME LADY, MONSTER
HAIRPINS and opera art films THE WILD BOAR FOREST and WOMEN GENERALS OF
THE YANG FAMILY, which have been widely acclaimed both at home and abroad.
More than 100 films have won awards at domestic and international film
festivals in the past more than 40 years.
The Growing Tide of Co-production
The Beijing Films Studio has enormous potentiality and rich experience
in international film co-production. The films of the Studio have won 50
awards internationally.
The Film Studio Co-produced with France the film THE FLYING KITE, with
Japan A GAME YET TO FINISH and LUCKY 13. The film MARLBORO co-produced
with Italy once again set off an upsurge of film co-production
between the Western film world and China. The film THE LAST EMPEROR, based
on the life of Pu Yi and co-produced by Bertoluchi, the world-known director,
with the Beijing Film Studio, won nine Oscar Awards. In the past few years,
its following co-productions with Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao have won
awards successively at international film festivals: FOR FUN, THE SPRING
FESTIVAL, A MAN AT FORTY, AREWELL TO MY CONCUBINE, THE LION DANE
FIGHT, FANG SHI YU and THE JINGWU HEROES. Its many new co-productions have
also won awards at international film festivals. The past of the Beijing
Film Studio was brilliant. The future Beijing Film Studio will shine with
even greater
splendor!
Perfect and Modern Facilities
There is the Comprehensive Office within the Beijing Film Studio. Under
it are the Production Management Dept., the film Co-production Dept; the
Film & TV Art Creation Centre, attached to which are the Cinematography
Workshop, Art Design Workshop, Production Studio, Recording Workshop and
Printing Workshop; the Film Sales Company and the Service Center. There
are four large-scale studios, one special effect studio, two dialogue recording
studios, one music studio and one mixing recording studio. The Beijing
Film Studio is very well equipped with the update or
relatively new technical facilities of the world. It has every capability
necessary for film production, modern equipment and advanced technique.
All these enable the studio to do the whole work of film production independently
from scriptwriting to film printing.
The Permanent Location
The shooting location inside the Beijing Film Studio has attracted numerous domestic and foreign production units to shoot films here. The Rong and Ning Mansions were built when shooting the film A DREAM OF RED MANSIONS. In early 80s, the permanent location of the `Xi Si Street' built for the shooting of the film RICKSHAW BOY was expanded to five streets for shooting the film FAREWELL TO MY CONCUBINE, and ever since then hundreds of Chinese and foreign films and TV films have been shot here.
